Common call-outs
Older property in and around Rye brings its own problems, and most of them are hidden. What turns up behind the plaster is usually the history of the building: wiring added in layers over the years, junction boxes buried where nobody can reach them, rubber and fabric insulation left in place under newer cable, and circuits that appear on no record at all. Two properties a few doors apart can turn up two completely different installations.
The coast is close enough to show up in the work as well. Salt in the air and long spells of damp weather are hard on anything mounted outside, so exterior lights, garden supplies and the cables feeding sheds, garages and workshops corrode at their terminations. Water getting into an external fitting is a common way for a whole circuit to drop out, and it tends to happen when the weather turns.
At night the calls follow a familiar pattern: a whole house dead after one appliance has failed, an electric shower that has stopped working, a smoke alarm sounding at three in the morning, or a fuse board that will not stay in. Guest accommodation and holiday lets bring a version of their own, faults that only appear when every room is occupied and every kettle, heater and shower is running at once.

The customers are a mix. Owners of older houses in the town, landlords with tenancies and short lets that need an EICR, pubs, shops and small commercial kitchens, and the farms, yards and workshops out on the low lying land beyond the town. Domestic, commercial and industrial work all comes from the same few miles, and a family run firm covering Sussex and the South East is set up for all three.
A call-out starts with testing rather than guessing. We isolate the circuit at fault, get the rest of the property live again where that can be done safely, then tell you what the permanent repair involves and what it will cost before anything further happens. Quotes are free and come with no obligation. Emergency work carries a call-out fee and then an hourly rate, and the phone is answered 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
Planned work in Rye asks more of the routing than a modern house does. Solid walls and original floors limit where a cable can go, so surface containment, careful lifting and a frank conversation about routes come first. Rewiring, lighting, extra circuits, fuse board replacement, EV charging points and solar all begin with a check of earthing and bonding. The work meets the current wiring regulations, the firm is Part P registered and fully insured, and certification is supplied.
Our process
You can call us at any hour, every day of the year, including bank holidays. In an emergency we ask what has stopped working and whether anything is hot, sparking or smelling of burning, and tell you what to switch off until we arrive. Booked work, from a landlord certificate to solar panels or EV charging, starts on the same call.
A Part P registered and fully insured engineer attends and makes the installation safe before anything else. Where there is a risk, the affected circuit or your fuse board is isolated, and anything that cannot be put right straight away is left in a safe condition. Planned work follows the same rule: circuits are proved dead before they are worked on.
We work from readings rather than assumptions. Testing can include continuity, insulation resistance, polarity, earth fault loop impedance and RCD testing. The results show where a fault sits, what an installation can safely take, and whether a problem is inside your property or on the incoming supply, which belongs to the distribution network operator and is reported free on 105.
Before any repair or installation begins, we explain the options: what needs doing now, what can safely wait, and whether repair or replacement is the sensible choice. Quotes are free and carry no obligation, and nothing goes ahead until you agree the price, so there are no call-out surprises. If parts or a return visit are needed, we tell you then.
The same qualified engineers who took your call carry out the work, whether that is an overnight repair, a fuse board replacement, new lighting, smoke and heat alarms, a rewire, an inspection, solar panels or an EV charging point. It is done to the current wiring regulations, with cables and accessories fixed securely and neatly, and disruption kept to a minimum.
Before we leave, the work is tested and checked in operation, and the working area is left tidy. You are told plainly what was done and anything worth keeping an eye on. Certification is supplied where the work calls for it, so you hold a written record of what was carried out and the results of the testing.
