Housing stock
Crawley expanded rapidly in the decades after the war, and a lot of the housing reflects it: semis, terraces and low rise flats built when circuits were sized for a very different household. That shows up in the work. Rewirable fuse boards, installations with no RCD protection, and socket circuits now asked to carry an induction hob, a tumble dryer and a car charger between them.
Take the cover off an older accessory in one of these properties and the story is usually written in the cable: rubber insulation that crumbles at the touch, cloth sheathing, a wrap of tape where somebody made good years ago. We also find homes rewired in stages, so a modern kitchen circuit sits alongside older wiring upstairs. Where housing went up quickly to a common pattern, the faults tend to repeat from one property to the next.
Later housing, put up as the town kept growing outwards, brings a different set of jobs. The wiring is generally in better order, but the fuse board is often at capacity, the earthing arrangement has to be checked before anything is added, and bonding to gas and water needs confirming rather than assuming. Whatever the age of the property, the installation is tested and inspected first, so you are told what it needs before any work is agreed.
What we do
24/7Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with a fast response across the South East. We make the installation safe first, then explain the repair and the cost before any work starts.

We specialise in finding and fixing electrical faults, tripping circuits and power loss. Faults are traced by systematic testing rather than guesswork, so the repair holds.
Learn more
Reliable installation and repair of internal and external lighting systems, from downlights and replacement fittings to garden, security and outside lighting.
Learn more
Full and partial electrical rewiring for houses and flats across the South East. Work can be staged room by room to limit disruption, and the property is left tested and certified.

New fuse boards fitted, also known as fuse boxes, consumer units or consumer boards. A modern board adds RCD protection and makes future faults far easier to isolate.

Supply, installation and testing of mains powered smoke and heat alarms, including interlinked systems for rented properties and new installations.
Learn more
Electrical Installation Condition Reports for rented and residential premises throughout the South East. We can arrange access with your tenants directly and return the report promptly.

Our in-house team can design, install, commission and maintain Solar PV installations of all sizes, covering the whole job from roof survey through to inverter and battery set-up.

Domestic and commercial car charger installations. We check the incoming supply can carry the load and position the unit to suit where you park.
Learn moreHow the work runs
Emergency calls here tend to start the same way: something has tripped and will not reset, a circuit is dead, or there is a smell of burning near the consumer unit. In low rise flats the fault sometimes sits in a shared landlord supply rather than inside the flat itself. We isolate, test and trace rather than guessing, then explain what has failed, make the installation safe and agree the repair with you.
The customers vary as much as the buildings. Homeowners rewiring room by room, landlords needing an EICR before a tenancy begins, letting agents chasing remedial work on a report somebody else produced, and the commercial and industrial premises you would expect in a town sitting on the doorstep of Gatwick, where the work is lighting, extra circuits or a three phase supply that needs investigating.
Beyond the emergencies, the steady work runs from fuse board replacement and rewiring in the older housing to EV charging points, solar panel installation, extra circuits and smoke and heat alarms elsewhere. CK Electrical is family run, Part P registered and fully insured. Quotes are free and given without obligation, prices are explained before work begins, and certification is supplied. The phone is answered 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
Our process
You can call us at any hour, every day of the year, including bank holidays. In an emergency we ask what has stopped working and whether anything is hot, sparking or smelling of burning, and tell you what to switch off until we arrive. Booked work, from a landlord certificate to solar panels or EV charging, starts on the same call.
A Part P registered and fully insured engineer attends and makes the installation safe before anything else. Where there is a risk, the affected circuit or your fuse board is isolated, and anything that cannot be put right straight away is left in a safe condition. Planned work follows the same rule: circuits are proved dead before they are worked on.
We work from readings rather than assumptions. Testing can include continuity, insulation resistance, polarity, earth fault loop impedance and RCD testing. The results show where a fault sits, what an installation can safely take, and whether a problem is inside your property or on the incoming supply, which belongs to the distribution network operator and is reported free on 105.
Before any repair or installation begins, we explain the options: what needs doing now, what can safely wait, and whether repair or replacement is the sensible choice. Quotes are free and carry no obligation, and nothing goes ahead until you agree the price, so there are no call-out surprises. If parts or a return visit are needed, we tell you then.
The same qualified engineers who took your call carry out the work, whether that is an overnight repair, a fuse board replacement, new lighting, smoke and heat alarms, a rewire, an inspection, solar panels or an EV charging point. It is done to the current wiring regulations, with cables and accessories fixed securely and neatly, and disruption kept to a minimum.
Before we leave, the work is tested and checked in operation, and the working area is left tidy. You are told plainly what was done and anything worth keeping an eye on. Certification is supplied where the work calls for it, so you hold a written record of what was carried out and the results of the testing.
