Common call-outs
Work by the sea leaves its mark on anything fitted outside. Calls from this stretch of coast often begin with an outside socket, a security light or a garden supply that has let water in, tripped the RCD and taken half the house with it. Salt in the air works on terminals and glands over years, and the fault tends to show itself when the weather turns.
Older housing brings a different set of calls. Where a property has not been rewired in decades, the board can predate RCD protection, so a failing element in a shower or an immersion heater blows a fuse rather than tripping cleanly, and a rewirable fuse tells you that a circuit has failed without telling you why. Fault finding on those installations means splitting circuits and testing, not guessing.
At night, and especially on a wet night with the wind off the sea, the pattern narrows. Smoke alarms that chirp and will not stop, a consumer unit that will not stay in, a burning smell at a socket, or a flat above a shop that has lost its lighting while the shop below is unaffected. Whatever the hour, the phone is answered, and the first task is to make the installation safe before anything else is discussed.
What we do
24/7Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with a fast response across the South East. We make the installation safe first, then explain the repair and the cost before any work starts.

We specialise in finding and fixing electrical faults, tripping circuits and power loss. Faults are traced by systematic testing rather than guesswork, so the repair holds.
Learn more
Reliable installation and repair of internal and external lighting systems, from downlights and replacement fittings to garden, security and outside lighting.
Learn more
Full and partial electrical rewiring for houses and flats across the South East. Work can be staged room by room to limit disruption, and the property is left tested and certified.

New fuse boards fitted, also known as fuse boxes, consumer units or consumer boards. A modern board adds RCD protection and makes future faults far easier to isolate.

Supply, installation and testing of mains powered smoke and heat alarms, including interlinked systems for rented properties and new installations.
Learn more
Electrical Installation Condition Reports for rented and residential premises throughout the South East. We can arrange access with your tenants directly and return the report promptly.

Our in-house team can design, install, commission and maintain Solar PV installations of all sizes, covering the whole job from roof survey through to inverter and battery set-up.

Domestic and commercial car charger installations. We check the incoming supply can carry the load and position the unit to suit where you park.
Learn moreBeyond the call-out
An emergency call often turns into a longer conversation. Householders, landlords letting flats and tenants ring for much the same reason, and so do the workshops and small commercial premises of a harbour town where the river meets the sea. Once the immediate fault is dealt with, the honest answer is sometimes that the board has reached the end of its life, or that a circuit needs replacing rather than patching again.
Planned work covers fuse board replacements, rewires, extra sockets and circuits, lighting upgrades, smoke and heat alarms, landlord safety certificates, solar panels and charging points for electric vehicles. Where equipment goes outside, the specification matters as much as the installation: enclosures, glands and cable rated for an exposed position, and fittings set so that water runs away from them. Domestic, commercial and industrial work is all covered.
How a job runs is the same at midnight as it is midweek. You describe the fault, we test rather than assume, and you are told what the work involves and what it will cost before anyone starts. Quotes are free and carry no obligation. CK Electrical is family run, Part P registered and fully insured, works to the current wiring regulations and supplies certification, in Shoreham-by-Sea and along the coast either side of it.
Our process
You can call us at any hour, every day of the year, including bank holidays. In an emergency we ask what has stopped working and whether anything is hot, sparking or smelling of burning, and tell you what to switch off until we arrive. Booked work, from a landlord certificate to solar panels or EV charging, starts on the same call.
A Part P registered and fully insured engineer attends and makes the installation safe before anything else. Where there is a risk, the affected circuit or your fuse board is isolated, and anything that cannot be put right straight away is left in a safe condition. Planned work follows the same rule: circuits are proved dead before they are worked on.
We work from readings rather than assumptions. Testing can include continuity, insulation resistance, polarity, earth fault loop impedance and RCD testing. The results show where a fault sits, what an installation can safely take, and whether a problem is inside your property or on the incoming supply, which belongs to the distribution network operator and is reported free on 105.
Before any repair or installation begins, we explain the options: what needs doing now, what can safely wait, and whether repair or replacement is the sensible choice. Quotes are free and carry no obligation, and nothing goes ahead until you agree the price, so there are no call-out surprises. If parts or a return visit are needed, we tell you then.
The same qualified engineers who took your call carry out the work, whether that is an overnight repair, a fuse board replacement, new lighting, smoke and heat alarms, a rewire, an inspection, solar panels or an EV charging point. It is done to the current wiring regulations, with cables and accessories fixed securely and neatly, and disruption kept to a minimum.
Before we leave, the work is tested and checked in operation, and the working area is left tidy. You are told plainly what was done and anything worth keeping an eye on. Certification is supplied where the work calls for it, so you hold a written record of what was carried out and the results of the testing.
