Older housing stock
Seaford is a coastal town on the East Sussex shore, and the housing has arrived in layers rather than all at once. There are Victorian and Edwardian houses in the older parts, a great deal of interwar and post war suburban building, bungalows as a familiar sight, and more recent development towards the edges. Each era left its own wiring behind it, and a fair amount of that wiring is still in service.
In the older properties the fuse board is often a rewireable unit with no residual current protection, sometimes fed by tails that have hardened with age. Lift a socket front and you may find rubber insulated cable that has gone brittle, a lighting circuit with no earth at the switch, or a spur taken off another spur when a kitchen was last altered. None of that is unusual in housing of that age.
Salt in the air is hard on anything outside, so external lights, garden supplies and meter boxes tend to corrode sooner near the coast than they would inland. Bungalows and single storey extensions bring their own habit of cables buried under loft insulation, where they run warmer than they should. Before any fuse board is changed we check the earthing arrangement and the main bonding, because a new board on old earthing is not an improvement worth having.

You may have lost lighting or sockets on one circuit. You may be a landlord who needs an EICR before a tenancy starts, or you may run a shop, a cafe or a small workshop that cannot trade with a board that keeps tripping. CK Electrical is a locally based, family run firm covering Sussex and the South East, with cover running along the coast either side of the town, through Newhaven to the west and Eastbourne to the east.
An emergency visit starts with making the installation safe, then finding the fault rather than guessing at it. Testing narrows it to a circuit, then to an accessory, a length of cable or a connection that has worked loose. You are told what has been found and what it will cost before anything further is done. Emergency work carries a call-out fee and then an hourly rate. The phone is answered 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
Not every job is urgent. A fuse board replacement, extra sockets and circuits, a lighting upgrade, smoke and heat alarms, an EV charging point, solar panels or a full rewire staged room by room so the house stays liveable: all of it can be booked in. Work is done to the current wiring regulations by a Part P registered and insured firm, with certification supplied.
Our process
You can call us at any hour, every day of the year, including bank holidays. In an emergency we ask what has stopped working and whether anything is hot, sparking or smelling of burning, and tell you what to switch off until we arrive. Booked work, from a landlord certificate to solar panels or EV charging, starts on the same call.
A Part P registered and fully insured engineer attends and makes the installation safe before anything else. Where there is a risk, the affected circuit or your fuse board is isolated, and anything that cannot be put right straight away is left in a safe condition. Planned work follows the same rule: circuits are proved dead before they are worked on.
We work from readings rather than assumptions. Testing can include continuity, insulation resistance, polarity, earth fault loop impedance and RCD testing. The results show where a fault sits, what an installation can safely take, and whether a problem is inside your property or on the incoming supply, which belongs to the distribution network operator and is reported free on 105.
Before any repair or installation begins, we explain the options: what needs doing now, what can safely wait, and whether repair or replacement is the sensible choice. Quotes are free and carry no obligation, and nothing goes ahead until you agree the price, so there are no call-out surprises. If parts or a return visit are needed, we tell you then.
The same qualified engineers who took your call carry out the work, whether that is an overnight repair, a fuse board replacement, new lighting, smoke and heat alarms, a rewire, an inspection, solar panels or an EV charging point. It is done to the current wiring regulations, with cables and accessories fixed securely and neatly, and disruption kept to a minimum.
Before we leave, the work is tested and checked in operation, and the working area is left tidy. You are told plainly what was done and anything worth keeping an eye on. Certification is supplied where the work calls for it, so you hold a written record of what was carried out and the results of the testing.
