The housing stock
Forest Row sits on the edge of Ashdown Forest, and the housing follows the pattern of a Wealden village: period cottages, older brick houses, larger properties set back in their own grounds, converted outbuildings and later twentieth century building. That range matters electrically. A house built in one century, extended in the next and rewired in part somewhere between the two rarely has one consistent installation behind the walls.
In the older cottages, and in outbuildings that have been put back into use, our engineers still find rubber insulated cable gone brittle, lighting circuits with no earth at the switch or the rose, and rewireable fuses in a board never meant to carry a modern load. Behind a front plate there may be red and black conductors joined to brown and blue, unsleeved earths, or a joint made under a floorboard and never recorded.
Outside the village centre the pattern shifts again. Where the supply arrives overhead and the earthing arrangement depends on a rod in the ground, the RCD protection and the main bonding have to be right, not assumed. Garages, workshops and garden rooms at the end of a drive are often fed by whatever cable came to hand at the time. We test what is there before we price the work, and tell you what we have found.
What we do
24/7Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with a fast response across the South East. We make the installation safe first, then explain the repair and the cost before any work starts.

We specialise in finding and fixing electrical faults, tripping circuits and power loss. Faults are traced by systematic testing rather than guesswork, so the repair holds.
Learn more
Reliable installation and repair of internal and external lighting systems, from downlights and replacement fittings to garden, security and outside lighting.
Learn more
Full and partial electrical rewiring for houses and flats across the South East. Work can be staged room by room to limit disruption, and the property is left tested and certified.
Learn more
New fuse boards fitted, also known as fuse boxes, consumer units or consumer boards. A modern board adds RCD protection and makes future faults far easier to isolate.

Supply, installation and testing of mains powered smoke and heat alarms, including interlinked systems for rented properties and new installations.
Learn more
Electrical Installation Condition Reports for rented and residential premises throughout the South East. We can arrange access with your tenants directly and return the report promptly.

Our in-house team can design, install, commission and maintain Solar PV installations of all sizes, covering the whole job from roof survey through to inverter and battery set-up.

Domestic and commercial car charger installations. We check the incoming supply can carry the load and position the unit to suit where you park.
Learn moreOn the job
Calls from Forest Row and the lanes around it fall into a few familiar shapes: a household with half the lighting dead on a winter evening, a landlord who needs an EICR before a tenancy begins, a small commercial unit or workshop that has lost a circuit, and owners planning a rewire, a new fuse board, extra sockets or a set of mains powered smoke and heat alarms.
Access is worth settling before the day starts. In a village of narrow lanes and long drives, where a van can stand and how far the cable has to run back to the board both change the plan. On a rewire or a fuse board change we agree the route, the isolation and the working hours with you first, so a household is not left without power at the wrong moment.
The phone is answered 24 hours a day, every day of the year, bank holidays included. On an emergency the first job is to make the installation safe, then to explain the permanent repair and what it will cost before it is carried out. Quotes are free and there is no obligation to go ahead. CK Electrical is Part P registered and fully insured, the work is done to the current wiring regulations, and certification is supplied.
Our process
You can call us at any hour, every day of the year, including bank holidays. In an emergency we ask what has stopped working and whether anything is hot, sparking or smelling of burning, and tell you what to switch off until we arrive. Booked work, from a landlord certificate to solar panels or EV charging, starts on the same call.
A Part P registered and fully insured engineer attends and makes the installation safe before anything else. Where there is a risk, the affected circuit or your fuse board is isolated, and anything that cannot be put right straight away is left in a safe condition. Planned work follows the same rule: circuits are proved dead before they are worked on.
We work from readings rather than assumptions. Testing can include continuity, insulation resistance, polarity, earth fault loop impedance and RCD testing. The results show where a fault sits, what an installation can safely take, and whether a problem is inside your property or on the incoming supply, which belongs to the distribution network operator and is reported free on 105.
Before any repair or installation begins, we explain the options: what needs doing now, what can safely wait, and whether repair or replacement is the sensible choice. Quotes are free and carry no obligation, and nothing goes ahead until you agree the price, so there are no call-out surprises. If parts or a return visit are needed, we tell you then.
The same qualified engineers who took your call carry out the work, whether that is an overnight repair, a fuse board replacement, new lighting, smoke and heat alarms, a rewire, an inspection, solar panels or an EV charging point. It is done to the current wiring regulations, with cables and accessories fixed securely and neatly, and disruption kept to a minimum.
Before we leave, the work is tested and checked in operation, and the working area is left tidy. You are told plainly what was done and anything worth keeping an eye on. Certification is supplied where the work calls for it, so you hold a written record of what was carried out and the results of the testing.
